Join the CFA Midwest Chapter in welcoming Mr. Paul Adams CEO of The RoomPlace for a thought-provoking and entertaining “fireside chat.” Mr. Adams will present his, and the RoomPlace’s, remarkable story of success starting in 2012 when he was entrusted with a 102-year-old family owned business. Topics will include:

  • A brief history of The RoomPlace, “The Berman family American dream.”
  • 2004 and 2011 sale transactions, “The Comeback.”
  • As well various stories from Paul, like the 2017 distribution center fire, TRP’s digital initiatives and omni channel approach, TRP’s growth and further successes and other rarely afforded insights from behind the C-suite and boardroom doors!

Keynote Speaker:

Paul Adams is the Chief Executive Officer of The RoomPlace, where he oversees more than 600 employees and is responsible for creating the organizational strategy and vision to drive revenue, profitability and growth across TRP Acquisitions. He was appointed in May 2012. Adams began his career at Anderson Consulting where his dedication and strong work ethic helped him to advance in the company and lead a team of over 300 consultants. Moving on to become a minority owner at Northern Wire and Cable, he worked in telemarketing for Business to Business interactions, utilizing his entrepreneurship skills to expand the company from two to eight locations and raise revenue from $28 to $95 million. Furthering his diverse background, Adams created opportunities in an assortment of roles throughout the technology and business sectors, fulfilling work in mergers and acquisitions on both the buying and selling side. At Temple Steel, he was the innovator in building relationships with Chinese and Indian manufacturers to supply the OEM and electrical industries. He later took on a position at Edelman, the world's largest public relations firm, as the Global CIO and member of the digital and business strategy committees. Here Adams used his knowledge of integrating digital platforms to create an audience-centric strategy across different media and business functions for clients in a multitude of industries. With a desire to return to a small company and passion for making a difference, Adams was drawn to his current role. In addition to his commitment to The RoomPlace, he continues to support the community through his work with Big Brothers Big Sisters of Lake County and Good Shepard Manor. His passion to help the homeless has led to his involvement with several homeless shelters and veteran organizations throughout the Chicagoland area. Adams earned his bachelor’s degree from Oakland University and currently lives in Libertyville with his wife.

Brent Kugman is a trusted advisor of The RoomPlace. Kugman acted as CRO and Sole Board Manager prior to Paul Adams’ appointment as CEO. He also acted as exclusive advisor to The RoomPlace relating to the 2011 code sale, ensuring the process obtained the highest and best offer in a competitive sale process. Kugman is an accomplished financial and operational consultant with 30 years of experience leading stressed and distressed as well as robust businesses to improved performance and profitability. His proficiencies range from corporate governance to development of corporate renewal strategies and stability initiatives to providing investment capital and sourcing transactions. His expertise includes C-Suite management, operations and operations management, transactional matters, and complex informal and formal financial restructurings and proceedings.
