e-News Update From The Commercial Finance Association

Heading Into a Season of Change

CFA CEO Bob Trojan

Much like spring, fall is often associated with change and starting something new. Kids will be heading back to school and the air will (slowly) turn crisper. Change is definitely on the horizon. We are confident  those in the commercial finance industry are ready to welcome this new season and explore taking advantage of some of the fantastic CFA education programs and events we have coming up. September is exploding with learning and networking opportunities!

CFA’s Fall Advanced Legal Issues Workshop will be heldSeptember 20-22, 2016 at Hahn & Hessen in New York, NY. The Workshop is a three-day forum covering a variety of major legal concerns for asset-based lending professionals. Designed specifically for non-attorneys, the workshop aims to increase participants' working knowledge of the legal principles that affect their jobs. A "Hot Topics" section is included to cover pertinent cases and developments in commercial law and regulation.

CFA’s Foundations of Account Management, a new course heldSeptember 27-28 at Holland & Knight in Dallas, will give new relationship managers a solid foundation of skills to effectively manage secured credit facilities of all sizes. Via interactive lessons led by seasoned industry professionals, participants will gain valuable technical skills to address loan restructures, anticipate credit issues, and mitigate risk. Participants will also learn to navigate the finer points of relationship management, such as negotiating credit provisions and leading a syndicate of lenders.

CFA's Field Examiner School has been attended by a generation of field examiners and is taught by some of the most experienced and respected professionals in the field. The Fall Field Examiner School will be held in Dallas from September 27-30 at Holland & Knight. For the full list of all CFA programs, please click here.

On the events front, on September 15CFA's 3rd Annual Cross-Border Lending Summit will be held at the Offices of Winston & Strawn LLP in New York City. The one-day program will  feature key players and practitioners in the international asset-based lending space discussing best practices and current market trends along with other topical issues of interest to anyone involved in cross-border ABL. The Cross-Border Lending Summit is a must-attend event for institutions looking for co-lender relationships in cross-border deals and is an ideal opportunity for commercial finance professionals who are unable to attend CFA's Annual International Lending Conference in London to learn about the latest developments and practices in global ABL in a convenient New York City location.

We’re busy placing the finishing touches for our inaugural 40 Under 40 Awards and Celebration, held on September 22 at the Waldorf Astoria Hotel in Manhattan. This event is going to be the networking event of the fall and a terrific evening for our industry, as we honor a group of innovators, visionaries, leaders and rising stars.  These inspiring winners are also profiled in the September issue of The Secured Lender, which will be mailed mid-September.  The ceremony will be emceed by Emmy-award winning consumer reporter, Lynda Baquero, and Rudolph W. Giuliani will give the keynote address. Giuliani, widely known for his two terms as New York City’s Mayor, serves as Chair of the Cybersecurity, Privacy and Crisis Management Practice and as Senior Advisor to the Executive Chairman at global law firm Greenberg Traurig.

Lastly, CFA’s biggest event of the year —our 72nd Annual Convention, will be held November 9 - 11, 2016 in Sunny Miami Florida. The event will be held at the Fontainebleau Hotel and will feature Jeb BushMartin O’MalleyVenus Williams and CIA Spy James Olson, along with an array of terrific panels. Be sure to check our site for the latest updates. It will be here before you know it!

Whether it’s a CFA Education Program, Conference or Chapter event you want to be attend, CFA  offers something for every level of experience. Our programs and conferences enable business leaders to build a culture of continuous professional development in your team. Investing in your performance as well as the performance of every team member is a necessity in today's world. So whether you are looking for workshops tailored to those just starting their careers or a program focused on advanced areas of practice, remember that CFA is your go-to provider.

Happy fall!

Best regards,

Bob Trojan
CEO, Commercial Finance Association
