40/40 ISSUE

The Secured Lender Awards issue

Our September issue is an instant classic! Inside you’ll find profiles of every member from our inaugural 40 Under 40 class. These are the young movers and shakers who have already made a name for themselves in our industry. They are also the ones to watch as their careers progress.

CFA’s 40 Under 40 is a group that includes innovators, visionaries, leaders and rising stars in an industry known for its deep talent pool. The profiles will offer insight into each member’s impact, their involvement in the community and their future aspirations.

This issue of The Secured Lender is dedicated to highlighting the CFA 40 Under 40, with added insights on human capital, mentoring and networking. The issue will be live on September 12. Please visit again for an in-depth look at each winner's profile. Here are some issue highlights:

Good news on the human capital front: In Preparing Future Leaders to Take the Reins, by Eileen Wubbe and Alexis DiZenzo, on page 108, we discover that our industry has made great strides in addressing the shortage of young talent in the market. The challenge now is learning to recruit, hire and retain that talent.

Mentoring is Essential: Can you imagine starting a career in a world where experienced people never pass on their knowledge and experience to those starting in the industry? In The Future of Our Industry Walks Among Us on page 114, Tim Atkinson and Katie Valenti discuss the significance of mentoring and why it is more important and relevant today than ever.

Networking Tips: Who would be more qualified to write an article on Networking for Young Professionals than one of the recipients of the CFA 40 Under 40 Awards. On page 118, Sarah Gilbert of Hahn & Hessen speaks from experience and offers tips to those looking to expand their professional network.

On page 92, the chair of the CFA 40 Under 40 Awards, Andrea Petro of Wells Fargo Capital Finance, discusses the importance of these inaugural awards.

The September issue features the CFA 40 Under 40 class and is the culmination of a rigorous process to choose just 40 from a distinguished group of nominees. Nominations began in early spring, followed by thorough vetting, due diligence, and hours of debate. The results are an honor for both members and their firms.
